6-9 Months
Select your wedding party.
Select and order brides gown and accessories
Select and order bridesmaids dresses.
Begin making up a guest list and have your families begin making up theirs as well. There are usually four lists: grooms family’s, brides family’s, bride’s, and groom’s.
Book your wedding professionals to ensure availability. Some will require signed contracts (caterers).
Contact rental companies (chair, talies, etc.) if your caterer or reception hall can’t do it for you.
4-6 Months
Order invitations and stationary including enclosures, envelope seals, thank you cards, stationary, envelopes, and postage. Don’t forget you will need separate thank you cards for before the wedding and after the wedding if you choose to use your married name.
Begin planning the honeymoon. Research with travel agencies and into honeymoon packages. Don’t forget to book a hotel room for the night of the wedding.
Help the mothers select their dresses.
Plan the rehearsal dinner. This may be taken care of by the grooms family but be sure to offer assistance.
Register for gifts.
Arrange for wedding day transportation.
Get together with your families and finalize the guest list.
Check marriage license requirements in the state you will be getting married. Some states require liood tests and you will need to visit with your doctor.
Send out save the date cards to your guests.
Begin pre-wedding counseling if your officiant requires it.
Apply for passports and visas for your honeymoon.
Begin creating your wedding favors if your plan on making them yourself.
Conduct a cake tasting with your baker.
